CLIMB Challenge (max)Max Hanging Hand Changes

The Challenge: To be attempted once during Challenge Week, complete as many hanging hand changes as possible.

To start, jump up to a pull-up bar into a dead hang position. Then switch one hand to a chin-up grip, then the other hand to a chin-up grip. That is one hanging hand change. Then you’ll bring both back to a dead hang position, that is 2 hanging hand changes. Continue going until you have to drop down from the pull-up bar.

Scoring: This challenge is not for time. Your total score will be the number of hanging hand changes “reps” you complete in one attempt. Count a rep every time you’ve changed both of your hands to a pull-up or chin-up position, alternating back and forth.

To Win: The person that does the gets the highest score does not necessarily win. We will be selecting one eligible winner at random to win a set of GripSling training straps, and a month membership to OCR BEAST’s grip strength training program, GRIPWOD. In order to be eligible, you must attempt the challenge, post about it on Instagram, tag @ocrbeast.co + @gripsling, and #OCRBEASTChallenge. Posts that include the CLIMB Challenge Badge will have 2x the chance of winning.

To Scale: Do one max effort dead hang for time. You can still be eligible for prizes, let us know how long you hung for!

CARRY Challenge (daily) – “A Carry A Day”

The Challenge: This is our every day challenge. Each day for 7 days, carry something DIFFERENT that weighs a minimum of 75 lbs (men), 50 lbs (women) for 5 minutes. One day can be a bucket, one day a sandbag, one day two 40# dumbbells (for men), one day your grandma. We don’t care! (If you seriously don’t have many options available to you – you could do things like one day you carry two 40# dumbbells, and one day you carry a 20# and a 60#, or one 75# dumbbell, etc. BE CREATIVE, there is weight all around us!

Scoring: There is no scoring. Just make sure the object(s) you’re carrying weigh a total of 75# (men) / 50# (women). Choose something different to carry every day, for a total of 5 minutes (can be broken up).

To Win: The person that carries the most weight, for the longest, does not necessarily win. We will be selecting one eligible winner at random to win a prize pack from Ascent Protein, including Ascent Whey Protein, Ascent Pre-workout, and a shaker bottle. In order to be eligible, you must attempt the challenge, post about it on Instagram, tag @ocrbeast.co + @ascentprotein, and #OCRBEASTChallenge. We ARE going to give away additional SURPRIZES (just made that up) throughout the week based on creativity in what you’re carrying.

To Scale: Carry objects that weigh less than what we’re prescribing if you need – totally ok with us!

 

CONQUER Challenge (timed)400m Lunge Lap

The Challenge: Complete a 400m lap on a track, or .25 miles on a GPS watch, by only doing walking lunges.

Scoring: Your score is the time it takes you to complete 400m worth of lunges. Don’t cheat and do half lunges, or take steps in between your lunges, just don’t.

To Win: The person that does their lunge lap the fastest does not necessarily win. We will be selecting two eligible winners at random to win compression shorts from Human Octane (one man and one woman). In order to be eligible, you must attempt the challenge, post about it on Instagram, tag @ocrbeast.co + @humanoctane, and #OCRBEASTChallenge.

To Scale: If the distance is the issue, start with 100m, or 200m, and assess from there. If it’s lunges, sub to either a lap where you do 1 squat, take 1 step, repeat, or a bear crawl lap.

 


OCR BEAST Challenge Week Info:

 

What is it?

 

An OCR fitness challenge consisting of three challenges over the course of a week.

Challenges will incorporate the three signature OCR BEAST elements to training:

 

CLIMB a CLIMB challenge will incorporate strengths and skills relevant to climbing
Obstacles (i.e. rope climb, rigs, monkey bars, etc). Areas such as grip strength,
grip endurance, “pull” strength, hanging manueverability, and more.

 

CARRY a CARRY challenge will incorporate strengths and skills relevant to carry
obstacles (i.e. bucket carry, sandbag carry, farmers carry, etc). Areas such as
grip strength, grip endurance, shoulder/lat strength, and leg strength.

 

CONQUER a CONQUER challenge will incorporate strengths and skills relevant to “suck
enduring” obstacles or penalties (i.e. burpee penalties, barbwire crawl, box
jumps, sprints, etc.). Areas such as “ability to embrace and endure the suck”,
“push” strength, high-intensity efforts, and more.

When is it?

 

The second “OCR BEAST Challenge Week” will kick off on July 2nd, and run through July 8th.

 

How will the challenges be structured?

 

OCR BEAST Challenge Week is not made to completely take over your training in the first week of every month. Aside from challenges fitting into our CLIMB, CARRY, CONQUER theme, there will be three categories that each of the three challenges will fit into, and they will rotate month to month. The three categories include:

Daily Challenge: a challenge that is to be performed daily, for all 7 days over the course of the OCR BEAST Challenge Week

Max Challenge: a challenge that is to be performed once, that will test an athlete to see how (many, much, far, etc) they’re able to get.

Timed Challenge: a challenge that is to be performed once, that will test an athlete to see how fast they are able to accomplish the work, or how much work they’re able to accomplish in the given amount of time.
