June OCR BEAST Challenge Week challenges are:

 

CLIMB (daily) – 3x max pull-ups

This is our DAILY Challenge! (Powered by GRIPWOD)

On Day 1, do one set of max pull-ups. Then multiply that number by 3. That is your daily prescribed number of pull-ups. Perform that “x 3” number of pull-ups every day for 7 days, broken up into any number of sets required. On day 1, you’re already 1/3 of the way there after your first set!

To Scale: if you aren’t able to do at least 2 pull-ups as your max, you will substitute pull-ups for a dead hang. It will be the same challenge, i.e. if you got 1 minute as max dead hang, you’ll do 3 minutes per day.

CARRY (max) – max distance bucket carry

This is our MAX Challenge! (Powered by Ascent Protein)

Unlike the CLIMB challenge, you’ll only do this once at some point during the week.

Perform one max distance bucket carry. Men 70 lbs, women 50 lbs.

On a track, or somewhere flat, pick up bucket and carry as far as possible. Score is the total distance traveled before letting the bucket touch the ground. You can measure distance on a track, or with GPS watch. No carrying on your shoulder, or resting the bucket below your knees.

Challenge is not for time – you are welcome to run, or walk. Whatever strategy you think will get you a greater distance!

To Scale: use less weight in your bucket, and just let us know what you used!

CONQUER (timed) – box jump & burpee ladder

This is our TIMED Challenge! (Powered by Human Octane)

Unlike the CLIMB challenge, you’ll only do this once at some point during the week.

15 min AMRAP (as many rounds as possible)
1 burpee
1 box jump
2 burpees
2 box jumps
3 burpees
3 box jumps… etc

Continue up the ladder, and get as far as possible in 15 minutes.

Box should be at least mid-knee height. Step or jump down. You can use the jump from your last rep of burpee per set to jump onto box for first rep of box jumps per set.

To Scale: substitute box jumps for box step ups (every 2 step ups count as 1 box jump).

 


OCR BEAST Challenge Week Info:

 

What is it?

 

An OCR fitness challenge consisting of three challenges over the course of a week.

Challenges will incorporate the three signature OCR BEAST elements to training:

 

CLIMB a CLIMB challenge will incorporate strengths and skills relevant to climbing
Obstacles (i.e. rope climb, rigs, monkey bars, etc). Areas such as grip strength,
grip endurance, “pull” strength, hanging manueverability, and more.

 

CARRY a CARRY challenge will incorporate strengths and skills relevant to carry
obstacles (i.e. bucket carry, sandbag carry, farmers carry, etc). Areas such as
grip strength, grip endurance, shoulder/lat strength, and leg strength.

 

CONQUER a CONQUER challenge will incorporate strengths and skills relevant to “suck
enduring” obstacles or penalties (i.e. burpee penalties, barbwire crawl, box
jumps, sprints, etc.). Areas such as “ability to embrace and endure the suck”,
“push” strength, high-intensity efforts, and more.

When is it?

 

The first “OCR BEAST Challenge Week” will kick off on June 4th, and run through June 10th.

 

How will the challenges be structured?

 

OCR BEAST Challenge Week is not made to completely take over your training in the first week of every month. Aside from challenges fitting into our CLIMB, CARRY, CONQUER theme, there will be three categories that each of the three challenges will fit into, and they will rotate month to month. The three categories include:

Daily Challenge: a challenge that is to be performed daily, for all 7 days over the course of the OCR BEAST Challenge Week

Max Challenge: a challenge that is to be performed once, that will test an athlete to see how (many, much, far, etc) they’re able to get.

Timed Challenge: a challenge that is to be performed once, that will test an athlete to see how fast they are able to accomplish the work, or how much work they’re able to accomplish in the given amount of time.

All three challenges will be emailed to athletes (and posted here) 1 day before day 1 of OCR BEAST Challenge Week (or immediately, if the athlete opted in during OCR BEAST Challenge Week).

This is not a competition – the athlete with the “highest score” is not necessarily going to win! There will be multiple chances to win prizes throughout the week, and we’ll update you on each of them via Instagram and email.
